Business Buzz: Elder Dental Program

January 25, 2020 (The Sun Chronicle – Attleboro): The Massachusetts Dental Society Foundation recently awarded nearly $100,000 in “Expanding Access to Dental Care” grants to six organizations in Massachusetts, including the Elder Dental Program, a program of HealthCare Options Inc. of Attleboro. It has been awarded $15,000 to help continue serving the dental care needs of low-income, uninsured seniors in Bristol County and southern Norfolk County.

Business Briefs: Medical Group Receives Dental Grant

January 23, 2020 (Berkshire Eagle – Great Barrington): Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires has been awarded $26,500 from the Massachusetts Dental Society Foundation to help the organization continue providing dental services to uninsured or underinsured income-qualified residents in Berkshire County. The funding also will help VIM to make a concerted effort to attract dentists and oral hygienists into the Berkshire area to help address capacity building in the area.


Grant Will Expand Access to Dental Care at Somerville High School 

January 21, 2020 (Patch – Somerville): The Massachusetts Dental Society Foundation has awarded Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) $15,000 to continue its work helping newly immigrated youth at Somerville High School access oral health care. Many of these students have no insurance coverage or are underinsured. They do not have access to preventive dental care and are unfamiliar with navigating the U.S. health care system.


Grant Will Help Expand Access to Dental Care in Waltham

January 14, 2020 (Patch – Waltham): The Massachusetts Dental Society Foundation has awarded the Forsyth Institute in Cambridge, on behalf of the ForsythKids Program, $15,000 to help incorporate the Waltham Public School System into its care network. The ForsythKids portable dental program provides preventive oral health care and education to underserved children throughout the Commonwealth. This expansion adds 10 new project sites and approximately 300 new patients.

MDS Foundation Awards Six Grants to Improve Access to Care

January 14, 2020 (Dentistry Today): The Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) Foundation has awarded nearly $100,000 in Expanding Access to Dental Care grants to six organizations. The grants aim to improve the oral health of residents of Massachusetts by supporting sustainable programs that improve access to dental care. 


Dentist teaches kids to brush

February 25, 2019 (Dartmouth Week – Dartmouth): Second graders at Quinn Elementary brushed up on dental hygiene at a presentation from Dr. Sabina Malla. Malla, a dentist, visits schools in the area to help kids learn good dental hygiene and build good habits by emphasizing the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day, for two minutes each time, and flossing each evening. Dr. Malla has worked with nearly 900 kids in the area. Her visits are sponsored by the Massachusetts Dental Society, which provides her with educational booklets and dental hygiene kits for each child that include a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and a two-minute sand timer.
